My assumption is that you would be able to restore a tape created with a tape library using a stand-alone drive because DPM supports stand-alone drives. But I am trying to see if anyone knows if this is supported or has experienced this.
My question stems from the failed robotic state of our tape library that is also out of warranty. It is not used for production data backups but still used.
Can I just purchase a stand-alone tape drive to utilize instead of replacing a tape library? Will a stand-alone tape drive read tapes previously written by a tape library? I am speaking of drives/tapes that are LTO4.
